Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon made the rounds on the internet after Tweeting about her shoe mishap a few days ago.
The representative of Pennsylvania’s 5th district had a very busy day on Wednesday – so busy she didn’t even notice she was wearing mismatched shoes. She shared a photo of the shoes on Twitter, and while they were the same style, the colors were ‘slightly’ different.
It wasn’t until too late the 59-year-old realized she was actually wearing two different shoes and decided to make fun of the situation by posting it on Twitter.
People ask me all the time about the pace of things in DC,’ she wrote. ‘It’s 4:04 PM and I just noticed that I have gone an entire day with two different shoes on.

In the photo she shared on Twitter, rep. Scanlon was wearing a cerulean sheath dress which she complemented with her mismatched shoes.
Apparently, the 59-year-old bought several pairs of the shoes in different colors and didn’t realize she put on one of each.
It happens to the best of us.
Rep. Scanlon explained to Teen Vogue that she had a very busy day at work and it wasn’t until the day was nearly over she saw her mismatched shoes.
The day was jam-packed as usual. Then, at about 4 PM, I sat down on the couch in our back office to talk with my staff [and] that is when someone pointed out that my shoes did not match. But I did not have time to change them before my next four evening events.
The tweet has been liked over 29,000 times now and people quickly responded by sharing their own accidental footwear mishaps.
A couple years back, it was around 2 in the afternoon when I looked down and wondered why my shoelaces were different colors. Took me a few seconds to figure it out.
Actress Bebe Neuwirth chimed in and shared her own picture sporting two different shoes, writing “can’t imagine what that’s like.”
Another woman wrote:
I went all day wondering why I was off balance. I thought it was emotional, turns out it was literal.
I bet you’ve all been in her ~shoes~ before. Share yours on the comment section.
